Contemporary Dance Class


The course places particular emphasis on the body canter, the rhythm, the breath, the collaboration and co-creation and to use of the floor as partner – helping the movement. Class begins with a soft warm-up, using exercises from ashtanga yoga, release techniques, contact improvisation and personal kinetic vocabulary. Gradually, through structured exercises, working individually, in groups and in pairs, building to a final movement combination with the aim to free the body and mind from the clichés and freely moving through space.

Rania Glymitsa (b. 1978, Greece) is a professional dancer-teacher-performer. She studied dance at the State School of Dance in Athens, Greece 1993-1999. She later continued her studies with a scholarship from Onassio foundation institute at Dance Space Center in New York where she explored working with contact improvisation and release techniques. During those years she attended workshops with teachers such as David Dorfman, Jeremy Nelson, Barbara Crubel, Kirstie Simson, David Zambrano, Jess Curtis, Frey Faust, Julien Hamilton, Gill Clark, Ted Stoffer, Jan Fabre and more.

Since 2003 she worked extensively with many choreographers and dance companies from Greece and internationally some of which are: Dimitris Papaioannou, Griffon, Yelp, Smack, Adib Dances, Aelion Dance Company, South Right, Noema Dance Works, Harry Mantafouni, Lia Haraki, Suzana Phialas and many more.

Since 2011 Glymitsa lives and works in Cyprus. She teaches contemporary dance and improvisation at Dance House Lemesos and various dance schools and has also trained professional dancers for various professional dance companies. As a dancer she continues to perform with Cypriot choreographers and other choreographers internationally.
